Adapt a global data inventory to India operations

Check whether a global record describes the people, systems and handovers used locally.

Choose one global activity

Start with recruitment, customer support or another manageable activity. Compare the existing record with a walkthrough by the India process owner.

  • Entities involved and who decides each purpose.
  • People, information, collection points and local systems.
  • Shared services, providers, locations and remote access.
  • Retention decisions, copies, exports and disposal arrangements.

Record differences without overwriting history

Keep the global reference and record the local variation, reason, owner and date. Resolve contradictory instructions with the responsible group and local contacts rather than silently choosing one.

Test a cross-team handover

For a fictional employee request, identify the India contact, global system owner and relevant provider. Record who decides, who searches, who responds and where progress is visible.

Keep legal mapping separate

The inventory is a factual aid. Determine separately which legal records and obligations apply; using a RoPA-style table does not itself establish an Indian statutory filing requirement or legal compliance.

Common questions

Must we create a second inventory?

Not necessarily. One maintained record with clearly identified local facts can be more useful than disconnected copies.

What if headquarters cannot confirm a system location?

Keep the location unknown, name a follow-up owner and record the consequence for the review.

Discuss the work you need

Agree the service, deliverables, responsibilities and fees before committing to an engagement.
