When this work helps

Useful for new products, monitoring, data sharing or a material change in purpose. The legal requirement for a formal DPIA must be assessed in the relevant jurisdiction.

Scope and practical outputs

Discuss a screening review or a deeper assessment of the purpose, people affected, potential harm, alternatives and safeguards.

  • A description of the proposed activity and information flow.
  • A risk and safeguards register with unresolved questions.
  • Recorded recommendations, decision owners and review triggers.

What your team contributes

Provide the product or process owner, design information, supplier details and a person with authority to approve changes. Include security and specialist advisers where the proposed activity needs them.

An example to discuss

Before using facial recognition for attendance, compare the proposed collection, access and retention with less intrusive ways of meeting the attendance need.

Agree the boundaries

A completed assessment does not automatically approve launch. Under EU GDPR, a controller must assess processing likely to pose high risk; unresolved high residual risk can require prior regulator consultation. India-specific requirements need their own review.

Common questions

Is every project legally required to have a DPIA?

No universal answer follows from the project label. Screen the actual processing and applicable requirements first.

Can this happen after launch?

A review can still identify improvements, but earlier review creates more practical choices and may be necessary under applicable law.

Discuss the work you need
