Decision guides

Do we need ongoing support or a defined project?

Look at the work that continues after the initial priorities have been addressed.

Choose a project for bounded work

A baseline review, one data map or a defined backlog can have a clear beginning, output and handover. Its scope should not imply continuing request or incident coverage.

Consider ongoing support for recurring work

Frequent product changes, supplier reviews, questions and training can need a regular arrangement. Set included capacity and a review rhythm around actual demand.

Review whether the model still fits

Agree a point to compare planned and actual work, close completed tasks and adjust responsibilities. A retainer should not continue solely because the original backlog once existed.

Common questions

Can a project lead to ongoing support later?

Yes, after reviewing what remains. The later arrangement should be separately agreed rather than assumed.

Does an ongoing arrangement include emergency response?

Only when live response, hours, authority and escalation have been expressly agreed.

Discuss the work you need

Agree the service, deliverables, responsibilities and fees before committing to an engagement.
